A roundtable on India's Green Hydrogen Potential: Opportunities, Challenges & Roadmap will be organized on 11 August, 2026 during the 3rd Edition of India Bioenergy & Tech Expo: An International Conference and Exhibition on Bioenergy and Technologies (IBET Expo 2026), which is scheduled to be held from 11-13 August 2026 at India Expo Centre & Mart, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, with the objective to highlight upcoming reforms in the bioenergy sector. The initiative will include an Exhibition and International Conference on Bioenergy and Technologies under the theme "Advancing Bioenergy Solutions for a Low Carbon World". This initiative will cover key sectors like Compressed Biogas (CBG), Ethanol, Biodiesel, Waste to Energy, Bio-Mobility, Biomass (Pellets and Briquettes), Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), Green Hydrogen, CCUS, and Biomaterials.
In recent times Green Hydrogen is playing a transformative role in India's clean energy transition by reducing fossil fuel dependence, strengthening energy security, and supporting the country's net-zero ambitions. To drive this transition, the Government of India launched the National Green Hydrogen Mission in 2023 with an estimated investment potential of over ₹8 lakh crore. The Mission aims to produce 5 MMT of Green Hydrogen annually by 2030, supported by 125 GW of additional renewable energy capacity, while accelerating decarbonization across key sectors including fertilizers, steel, refining, shipping, transport, and power generation.
India's Green Hydrogen roadmap follows a phased approach as per below table:

As the sector advances towards commercial deployment, challenges such as high production costs, infrastructure gaps, limited domestic R&D and manufacturing capabilities, global competition, and effective policy implementation must be addressed. At the same time, advancements in electrolyser technologies, bio-hydrogen pathways, storage solutions, fuel cells, and hydrogen ICE technologies are creating new growth opportunities. Supported by strong public and private investments, Hydrogen Hubs and Hydrogen Valleys, along with workforce development, local manufacturing, and supportive policies, will be crucial for building a competitive, self-reliant, and globally relevant hydrogen ecosystem.
This roundtable will bring together key stakeholders from government, industry, academia, research institutions, think tanks, financial institutions, and technology providers to discuss the current status of Green Hydrogen in India, identify challenges and opportunities, and explore practical pathways for building a globally competitive hydrogen economy.
